Dr. Miriam Jackson

Dr. Miriam Jackson is a Senior Cryosphere Specialist at ICIMOD. She has worked in Antarctica, the Arctic and the Hindu Kush Himalaya. Work in Norway included extensive work on Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and leading work in the Svartisen Subglacial Laboratory for over 20 years.  She established the first regular glacier mass balance measurements in Bhutan and led the joint Norwegian – Indian project INDICE – The response of the hydrological system in India to climate change. She was a lead author in the High Mountain Areas chapter of the SROCC report (2019) and one of the editors and a lead author of the “Water, ice, society, and ecosystems in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HI WISE)” report published in 2023. She led the cryosphere between 2020 and 2024.
